Meet the remarkable individuals of the 2023 Community Treasures who have dedicated their lives to serving and shaping Chapel Hill:

Albert Williams

Albert Simms Williams: A civil rights pioneer and Chapel Hill native, Mr. Williams made history with a courageous sit-in at the age of 16. He later became Chapel Hill’s first Black firefighter and a community pastor, celebrating diversity.

Pam Hemminger and Louise Felix

Ms. Louise Felix: A proud Northside native, Ms. Felix carries on her family’s legacy of community service. She’s a mentor, a volunteer, and a beacon of hope for stronger community bonds.

Marjorie Land

Mrs. Marjorie Land: A trailblazing nurse, Mrs. Land’s 41-year career at North Carolina Memorial Hospital improved countless lives. She continues to advocate for affordable housing and equal opportunities.

Paul and Belinda Caldwell

Paul and Belinda Caldwell: Married for over four decades, this dynamic couple champions civil rights, affordable housing, and education equality. They are pillars of their community, working tirelessly to improve lives and promote housing justice.

Robert and Carol Humphreys

Robert Humphreys: A Chapel Hill native, Robert founded the Chapel Hill Downtown Association and dedicated his life to community projects. He continues to impact the community positively as a Financial Director at UNC.

The Chapel Hill Historical Society honored these dedicated individuals at the Seymour Senior Center on Saturday, October 28, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
