The maker of an Oprah’s ‘Favorite Thing’ has opened a new bake shop in Chapel Hill
Discover Chapel Hill’s culinary heritage at Tonya’s Cookies & Bake Shop. Tonya Council, granddaughter of Mildred “Mama Dip” Council, presents a charming bakery in The Galleria. A limited menu of cookies, pies, and cakes is now available, with a grand opening on Nov. 17, 2023. Next year, a cafe will be added, serving soups and sandwiches. Tonya’s Pecan Crisp Cookie, inspired by Mama Dip’s pecan pie, is a standout. Tonya’s Cookies has a long history, but this Chapel Hill location brings her back to her roots.
